(13-07-23) MOGADISHU – The Somali Special Forces, including the Danab Commandos and Jubbaland Dervishes, achieved a significant victory over the terrorist group al-Shabaab. They effectively decimated an al-Shabaab base located on the outskirts of Weelmaaro, in the lower Jubba region on Wednesday evening. The outcome of the operation was the elimination of approximately 17 individuals who were identified as prospective suicide bombers.
These individuals had recently graduated from a notorious training school located in Aanoole, on the fringes of the Bu’ale District. The institution is known for producing suicide bombers, primed for violent militant activities. The graduates suffered significant losses in the operation.
The Ministry of Defence confirmed that the individuals neutralised in Wednesday’s operation were predominantly foreign recruits, hailing from neighbouring Kenya and Ethiopia. This underscores al-Shabaab’s increasingly significant reliance on foreign recruits to replenish its militant ranks.
