(17/08/23) MOGADISHU – A land mine explosion took the life of a mother and injured her child on the outskirts of the recently liberated Run-Nirgood district, Middle Shabelle rigion on Wednesday.
The incident occurred in a forested area, described by local authorities as a strategic crossing point with multiple roads. Governor Muhuddin Mohamud Kulmiye confirmed the tragedy to the government broadcaster. “A land mine laid by Allshabab terrorists went up against civilians, a mother died and her child was injured,” said Governor Muhuddin.
While providing details of the incident, he identified the region as an area where the extremist group Al-Shabaab is believed to be hiding. “The place where the problem happened is the forest area, and they were in a strategic place that used to be crossed by many roads,” Governor Muhuddin added.
In his interview, Governor Kulmiye emphasised the ongoing efforts to track down those responsible. “Whoever is behind this action is being sought, it is the Alshabab, and this is the end of their situation,” he stated.
Ruun-Nirgood was fully recaptured by government forces earlier this week. Despite the victory, the district remains under vigilant security operations to stave off potential attacks from Al-Shabaab.
