(06-09-23) MOGADISHU — Security operations unfolded across Mogadishu and surrounding areas on Tuesday night as forces aimed to bolster the capital’s security infrastructure.
Most of the major roads, residential areas, and commercial districts were thoroughly searched by the authorities. Remarkably, despite the scale of the operation, traffic in the city continued to flow as normal.
The operation forms part of a larger strategy designed to reduce the incidents of insecurity that have plagued the capital. These efforts have led to a noticeable decrease in activities carried out by Al-Shabaab and local bandits.
Officials report that the operations have been fruitful, with contraband items seized and multiple arrests made. Residents have expressed relief, but there are calls for the efforts to be sustained.
“These operations are a welcome development and essential for the ongoing stability of Mogadishu,” commented Abdullahi Ali, senior security official.
While these operations have been effective in increasing safety and stability, critics argue that the authorities need to strike a balance to ensure civil liberties are not infringed upon.
Further operations are expected in the coming weeks, as authorities continue to prioritise security in a bid to restore lasting peace to the city.
