(07-09-23) MOGADISHU — The Somali National Army (SNA) and local forces repelled an early morning attack on Thursday by about 100 Al-Shabaab militants in the Nur Dugle area, according to the Ministry of Defence. Authorities received a tip-off about Al-Shabaab’s plan, detailing a convoy of five “battle wagons,” heavily armed vehicles, heading towards the village. This intelligence was corroborated by the Ministry of Defence, in a statement, “SNA and local forces successfully intercepted intelligence on a planned Al-Shabaab attack near El-Bad. We swiftly staged a robust defence, neutralising the threat.”
The local forces discovered the militant’s strategy as they were passing through El-Bad. Additional troops arrived promptly to assist in setting up a fortified defensive position, according to local sources. Officials report that a meticulously planned trap was sprung on the militants, causing heavy casualties among the Al-Shabaab ranks. “Our troops inflicted heavy casualties on the Khawarij, ensuring the area remains secure,” the Ministry of Defence said.
Despite the government’s statement of a successful defence, Al-Shabaab has issued a claim that they have taken control of Nur Dugle.
