(26-09-23) MOGADISHU — Federal MP Ibrahim Moallimuu has urged Somalia’s international allies to assist in the rehabilitation of the Buloburte bridge in the Hiiraan region, which was devastated by an Al-Shabaab car bomb in October 2022. In a tweet, MP Moallimuu emphasised the urgency of restoring the Buloburte Bridge, noting its significance as a vital connection between Mogadishu and central Somalia. He added that the local populace continues to grapple with the aftermath of the bridge’s destruction. Prior to the bombing, the town of Buloburte had been liberated from an extended Al-Shabaab blockade. However, the militant group retaliated by targeting the town’s important bridge. MP Moallimuu also advocated for the reconstruction of the area’s airport, another casualty of the militant group’s actions.
Reacting to his plea, the former HirShabelle President, who is now an advisor to President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud on civilian protection, commended the MP for his efforts. He, however, relayed promising updates: assessments, designs, and resource allocation have all been finalised, and the construction of an enhanced bridge in the area could commence shortly. “Our partner recognises the significance of this bridge,” he affirmed in his reply.
