(03-10-23) MOGADISHU — The Minister of Information, Culture, and Tourism for the Federal Government of Somalia, Mr Daud Aweys Jama, launched the second stage of the conference to synchronise the messaging of the national government and federal Member States, in Mogadishu.
At the conference’s outset, Minister Daud highlighted key takeaways from its first phase, stressing the meeting’s goal to unify the government’s messaging.
“Over the past two decades, significant shifts in the media landscape have underscored the need for a consistent and harmonised government narrative devoid of contradictions or disagreements. Such an evolution mandated comprehensive strategic foresight,” remarked Minister Daud.
The Minister further noted the current media environment, characterised by both reliable outlets and social media platforms. Unfortunately, some of these platforms often bypass the essentials of fact-checking and stray from core journalistic principles.
Concluding, Minister Daud addressed the government’s ongoing struggle against the Khawarij, a term typically used to reference Al-Shabaab extremists. He accentuated the importance of a united front, ensuring the dissemination of consistent messages to the Somali populace.
