(21-10-23) MOGADISHU — Speaker of the Federal Parliament of Somalia, Adan Mohamed Nur Madobe, flew to Washington DC Saturday in response to an official invitation from leaders of the United States House of Representatives, according to a statement issued by the information office of the House of Representatives.
Madobe is scheduled to engage in high-level discussions with leading figures in the US Congress. The agenda centres on fostering a closer relationship between the legislative bodies of the United States and Somalia.
“The discussions will touch upon the development of the Somali Parliament and explore avenues for future cooperation between the two legislative bodies,” said the statement from the Somali House of Representatives.
This diplomatic initiative marks a significant milestone for Somalia, highlighting the country’s desire to strengthen its international relationships. Cooperation with the United States is particularly critical as Somalia undertakes efforts to bolster governance, improve security, and spur socio-economic development.
The visit follows a series of bilateral agreements and discussions that Somalia has had with various international partners, underlining the nation’s ambition to be more actively involved in global matters.
