(23-10-23) MOGADISHU — The National Civil Society and Government Institutions Cooperation Forum kicked off Monday in the Somali capital, signalling a pivotal moment in state governance and civil society relations.
Ahmed Moallim Fiqi, the Minister of Interior, Federal and Reconciliation, inaugurated the two-day event. Fiqi stressed the “indispensable” role of civil society organisations (CSOs) in Somalia’s nation-building efforts.
“Civil society has been operating under strenuous conditions, conducting critical research and community outreach. Some have even sacrificed their lives,” Fiqi said. “This forum aims to strengthen ties and foster effective collaboration on governance, community engagement and charting the future of Somalia.”
The forum will serve as a platform for CSOs to influence government policy and planning actively. Key topics on the agenda include governance frameworks, social welfare and peace initiatives.
At the forum’s conclusion, a comprehensive report will be published, summarising agreed-upon points between government institutions and civil society organisations. The event is viewed as crucial in Somalia’s path toward stability and economic growth amid a myriad of challenges.
