31-10-23) MOGADISHU — Deputy Prime Minister Salah Ahmed Jama and Swedish Ambassador Joachim Waern held a pivotal meeting on Tuesday in Mogadishu. The talks focused on a specialised stabilisation programme for areas in Somalia recently liberated from Al-Shabaab.
Sweden, in collaboration with EU countries, has been a key contributor to the National Stabilisation Programme. This initiative has notably improved conditions in various towns including Harardhere, Eldher, and Moqokori by illuminating streets and enhancing public services. The programme is crucial to the Somali government’s ongoing efforts to establish lasting peace and stability in regions recently cleared of militant presence.
Ambassador Waern reciprocated the enthusiasm, pledging Sweden’s full commitment to the programme. “It is an honour to represent Sweden in Somalia, and we are fully committed to contributing to its sustainable growth and stability,” he commented.
The talks mark a critical expansion of Swedish support in Somalia, which has previously included humanitarian aid and development projects. The meeting paves the way for further cooperation in areas that have been cleared of militant activity.
