(12/11/23) MOGADISHU – Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre of the Federal Republic of Somalia inaugurated the Unified Social Registry (USR) on Sunday, an initiative aimed at reducing poverty and enhancing the nation’s resilience against disasters such as droughts, floods, and locust swarms.
During the launch, Prime Minister Hamza highlighted the significance of the USR in Somalia’s current strategy. The system is integral to the national government’s policy focusing on inclusive development, which is pivotal for strengthening security, economic growth, and societal integration. The USR is poised to play a key role in these areas.
PM Hamza urged all international and national organizations, along with groups involved in relief activities, to adopt the government’s USR Register. This move is crucial to avoid duplication and inefficiencies, thereby ensuring that community services are delivered effectively. The Prime Minister underscored that the proper implementation of the USR would enhance public trust in the government and contribute to building a more effective governance framework.
This initiative represents a major step forward in Somalia’s commitment to sustainable development and disaster preparedness.
