(15/11/23) MOGADISHU – An explosion rocked the Abdiaziz district of Mogadishu Tuesday evening, targeting the residence of a government officer, officials reported. The blast, believed to be from a mine, was detonated at the front door of the house, located near the Police transport centre in Mogadishu.
Authorities confirmed there were no casualties, although the explosion caused damage to the front entrance of the residence. The incident adds to a series of recent disturbances in Somalia’s capital, highlighting the ongoing security challenges in Mogadishu.
Al-Shabaab has claimed responsibility for the attack, which they described as targeting a senior NISA agent named Ibrahim Hassan Gelle. Although Gelle was not present at the property at the time, the attack caused significant damage to the property.
Despite the explosion, the situation in the area has stabilised, with no immediate response from the Somali government’s security agencies. This attack forms part of a broader pattern of insecurity plaguing Mogadishu, including assaults on Hormuud’s facilities in the Dayniile district and the Elasha Biayaha, just outside the city.
