(17-11-23)MOGADISHU — In a strategic operation, the Somali National Army’s 9th Brigade of the Bakool region successfully neutralized three members of the Al-Shabaab group on Friday. The operation took place in the village of Makiney, 40 kilometres southwest of Hudur town.
Officials from the 60th Division of the 9th Brigade confirmed the seizure of weapons from the Al-Shabaab operatives during the operation. This action is a significant part of a larger initiative aimed at eradicating insurgent elements from the Southwest State.
The military’s current efforts are focused on the Hudur district and its adjoining areas. Operations are underway to cleanse villages believed to be shelters for Al-Shabaab members. This initiative marks the second phase in the ongoing campaign to restore control of South West Somalia from the insurgent group.
On Thursday, President Hassan Sheikh met with military chiefs to discuss the second phase offensive against the Al-Shabaab militant group. The meeting involved detailed discussions on the successes of the first phase of the liberation operation and the critical role of public mobilization in supporting the military’s efforts.
