(27-11-23) KISMAYO — Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre, accompanied by Jubbaland state President Ahmed Mohamed Islam Madobe, officially inaugurated the new centre of the Ministry of Health in Kismayo on Monday. The opening of this modern facility is particularly timely, as the region confronts health challenges arising from the recent El Nino-induced flooding.
Addressing those present, Prime Minister Barre highlighted the importance of the centre in battling the flood-related health crises. He urged the Ministries of Health at both the federal and state levels to intensify their vigilance against infectious diseases caused by contaminated water and to develop clear, actionable strategies.
Officials from the Jubbaland Ministry of Health presented their comprehensive plans to address the consequences of the torrential rains. They highlighted the range of services the Ministry is poised to offer, particularly aimed at supporting the communities in the flood-stricken areas of Jubbaland.
Following the inauguration, Prime Minister Barre proceeded to conduct an inspection of the General Hospital in Kismayo. He engaged with medical professionals and was briefed on the current health situation, focusing on the hospital’s preparedness to tackle the potential surge in infectious diseases due to the displacement of local residents.
