(27-12-23) GAROWE (Halqabsi News) — The Chairperson of the Puntland Human Rights Defender’s Office met with the leadership of the Puntland Election Dispute Resolutions Committee to deliberate on the approval and dispute resolution processes. In their discourse, they examined the handling of grievances and the allocation of women’s quotas in the upcoming Puntland Parliament.
The Election Dispute Resolutions Committee updated and apprised the Human Rights Advocate, Attorney Said Mumin, of their ongoing efforts to process candidate registrations and address complaints.
The chairperson exhorted the committee to review and authenticate all grievances, emphasising the necessity of maintaining neutrality. He advocated for transparency and fairness as essential in mitigating election discord, highlighting the challenges posed by past clan-centric elections.
While the Committee reaffirmed their dedication to their mandate, they acknowledged the challenges of reconciling the traditional clan-based allocation system with statutory requirements. In conclusion, the chairperson lauded the committee for their unwavering dedication to serving the people.
