(08-01-24) HARGEISA (Halqabsi News) — The House of Elders in Somaliland has successfully approved a significant election law, endorsing the integration of presidential and political party elections. The law was approved through a show of hands after undergoing several weeks of review and amendments.
The opposition parties in Somaliland exhibited a strong interest in enacting this legislation, recognising its importance in facilitating the simultaneous occurrence of presidential and party elections. Anticipating potential delays, the opposition advocated for its expedient approval.
Presidential Candidate Abdirahman Irro of the Waddani Party expressed his approval, saying, “It is now an undeniable fact that our country is set on the course for concurrent elections. Consequently, I urge all citizens of the Republic of Somaliland to gear up for the elections slated for 13 November 2024.”
The much-anticipated Somaliland elections, encompassing party and presidential votes, have experienced setbacks. However, they are now scheduled to take place towards the end of 2024.
