(11-02-24) BOSASO (Halqabsi News) — A small business owner was fatally shot by unidentified assailants last night in Bosaso, a port city in Somalia’s northeastern state of Puntland, security officials confirmed on Sunday. The victim, originating from the Southwest State of Somalia, was targeted in an attack that left the locals searching for answers, with the perpetrators managing to escape.
In a related incident, the residence of Puntland’s Security Minister, Ibrahim Artan, was attacked with a grenade. Fortunately, the attack resulted in no casualties, according to police reports. This incident is part of a disturbing trend of violence in Bosaso, a strategic city on the Gulf of Aden, which has seen a series of explosions and targeted killings in recent months.
The attacks have primarily targeted security personnel, local government officials, and business entities, raising concerns about the safety and stability of the region. Bosaso’s security challenges are compounded by the presence of militant groups such as Al-Qaeda-affiliated Al-Shabaab and ISIS in the Bari region’s mountains. These groups have been known to conduct attacks in the city and impose levies on businesses, further destabilising the area.
