(24-02-24) MOGADISHU (Halqabsi News) — In a pre-dawn operation in the Lower Shabelle region, the Somali National Army, alongside international partners, delivered a blow to the Al-Shabaab militant group, the Federal Government of Somalia announced Saturday. The collaborative attack, targeting an Al-Shabaab gathering in the Jilib-Marka village within the Marka district, resulted in the death of at least 30 militants.
The government’s press release detailed that the operation aimed at a known assembly point of the Al-Shabaab members, based on precise intelligence. It also led to the seizure of a military container filled with weapons, scoring a victory in disrupting the militant group’s capabilities.
“This operation, executed in the early hours, targeted a gathering of Al-Shabaab, from whom we had obtained actionable intelligence. Additionally, we confiscated a military cache used in their operations,” the government stated.
Al-Shabaab has not responded immediately regarding the government’s claim of the successful operation. This silence follows a pattern of intensified military actions against the group by Somali forces and their international allies, aimed at quelling the group’s influence in the region.
