(02-03-24) KISMAYO (Halqabsi News) — The Somali National Army’s elite Danab forces carried out a major operation against the Al-Shabaab insurgents in the Lower Juba region. The operation, which took place on Saturday in the Jamame District, resulted in the death of 19 Al-Shabaab members and the capture of an additional nine.
The forces, comprising the 162nd Brigade of the 16th Danab Commando Force and Jubaland forces, executed a strategic assault in the vicinity of Wabari, located in the Barka village. Despite recent challenges posed by flooding in the region, the troops initiated the attack from two directions in the Bar-Sanguuni, demonstrating a high level of coordination and tactical skill.
The operation disrupted Al-Shabaab’s presence, cutting off their supply lines between the key cities of Kismayo and Mogadishu. A military spokesperson lauded the operation, stating, “This marks a crucial step forward in our ongoing fight against terrorism, reflecting the bravery and dedication of our forces.”
The Defence Ministry further detailed the operation’s achievements: “Our forces neutralised 19 and detained nine Al-Shabaab operatives, dismantling mines and seizing a significant cache of weapons, including five PKMs, two RPGs, and seventeen AK47 rifles.”
Local eyewitnesses reported to Halqabsi News that there were casualties among the Somali forces, with several injured personnel transported to Kismayo Hospital. This detail underscores the risks and sacrifices made by the Somali Army on the path to restoring peace and security.
