(04-03-24) KISMAYO (Halqabsi News) — For the third consecutive day, operations by the Somali National Army against Al-Shabaab militants have intensified in the Lower Jubba region, according to Army officials on Monday. The forces have successfully eliminated key figures within the militant group, including Sadiq, the head of intelligence; Abdiqani, an explosives expert; and Amir Jabir, a high-ranking Kenyan national member of the group.
The elite Danab forces have engaged directly with the enemy, systematically penetrating and dismantling Al-Shabaab’s trenches and strongholds in Jubaland State. This proactive approach disrupts the militants’ presence and severs their supply lines. Following a successful operation near Bar-Sanguuni on Saturday, which resulted in the death of over 19 militants and the capture of nine, the military’s reach has extended beyond the Jubba River, marking significant progress in reclaiming territories previously under militant control.
These efforts are part of the government’s broader second phase offensive, aiming to decisively eradicate Al-Shabaab’s presence in Jubaland and Southwest States. This strategy is especially crucial as Somalia prepares to take over security responsibilities ahead of ATMIS exit in December.
