(04-03-24) MOGADISHU (Halqabsi News) — Hassan Hussein Mohamed Eelay, Minister of Livestock, Forestry, and Range, on Monday, engaged in discussions with a delegation from the Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) of the United Nations, in Mogadishu, aiming to fortify Somalia’s agriculture and livestock sectors.

Etienne Peterschmitt, the FAO’s Office Director for Somalia, leading the delegation explored strategies for bolstering cooperation and accelerating the execution of developmental projects critical for the enhancement of livestock, agriculture, and rangeland management in Somalia.

This partnership is poised to address some of the most pressing challenges the nation’s agricultural sector faces, including combating drought, controlling pests, and integrating advanced agricultural technologies. Its primary goal is to enhance the resilience and livelihoods of the Somali population, a significant proportion of whom depend on farming and herding for survival.

“The collaboration with FAO marks a significant step towards our commitment to agricultural development and ensuring food security for our people,” said Minister Eelay. “Together, we aim to implement sustainable practices that will not only increase productivity but also mitigate the adverse effects of climate change and environmental degradation.”

Officials are optimistic that this reinforced partnership will lead to significant advancements in sustainable growth and stability within Somalia’s agricultural sectors, marking a crucial phase in the nation’s journey towards recovery and prosperity.
