(06-03-24) MOGADISHU (Halqabsi News) — Upon his recent return from a productive trip to Tanzania, the Federal Government of Somalia’s Minister of Commerce and Industry, MP Jibril Abdirashid Haji Abdi, brought home the flag of the East African Community (EAC), signifying Somalia’s official entrance into this regional bloc.
The historic occasion follows Somalia’s formal admission into the EAC a few days earlier. On 4 March, 2024, Minister Jibril presented the Somali flag alongside the ratification documents for joining the bloc at its headquarters in Arusha, Tanzania, highlighting a key moment in Somalia’s regional collaboration efforts.
In an upcoming ceremonial event, Minister Jibril will present the EAC flag to Somalia’s President, Hassan Sheikh Mohamud. It will be the first time that the flag will be raised at Villa Somalia. Following this historic moment, the flag will be hoisted across all governmental institutions nationwide, visibly affirming Somalia’s commitment to its new role within the East African Community and its future in regional integration.
