(10-03-24) MOGADISHU (Halqabsi News) — In a joint operation, the Somali National Army, backed by US forces, targeted a gathering of Al-Shabaab militants in the Lower Shabelle region, the federal government confirmed on Sunday. The action aimed to neutralise a threat as the group was reportedly regrouping in the area.
According to an official statement, the strategic offensive was a planned initiative by the Somali National Army in collaboration with US forces, intended to dismantle Al-Shabaab’s capabilities. The exact location within the Lower Shabelle region was not revealed, keeping operational details confidential.
The government announced that the offensive resulted in the death of three Al-Shabaab members and dismantled a plot by the militants. This action is part of a broader campaign by Somali forces, supported by international partners, to reduce the group’s influence and control within the country.
Al-Shabaab has not responded to the government’s claims. The operation contributes to a series of efforts aimed at debilitating the militant group, which has seen Somali forces reclaiming massive territories in recent times.
