(06 April 2024) MOGADISHU (Halqabsi News) — The Somali Armed Forces Court sentenced Heliwa district police commander Abdifatah Mohamed Hassan Qoslaye and two others to death for the murder of businessman Abukar Ahmed Kaabah on 24 February 2024. The court also removed them from the Somali Police Force and stripped them of their police ranks, reflecting a serious approach towards crimes involving law enforcement personnel.
Additionally, the court sentenced Liban Mohamed Omar to 15 years in military prison, while Mohamed Adawe Ali and Yassin Abdi Jama, a militiaman in police disguise, received 10 years each. Technician Hassan Mohamed Saeed was also handed a 10-year sentence, highlighting the court’s effort to penalize all involved in the crime. Mohamed Hassan Osman was acquitted, underscoring the judiciary’s commitment to fair trial principles.
The sentencing has sparked a 30-day appeal period, signalling the start of what could be a lengthy legal battle. This case underscores the Somali judicial system’s stern stance against corruption and criminal activities within its ranks, setting a precedent for future conduct among the nation’s armed forces and police.
