(07 April 2024) MOGADISHU (Halqabsi News) — On the night of April 6th, 2024, Somali government forces conducted a successful raid in the Hanti-Wadaag village of the Lower Shabelle region, eliminating four members of the Al-Shabaab militant group, including a high-ranking official known as Zubeir. The operation, led by the elite Danab commandos, targeted the group’s stronghold, marking a blow to their operations and leadership structure in the region. The Ministry of Defence hailed the operation as a decisive action that disrupts terrorist activities, emphasizing the government’s dedication to peace and security.
Zubeir, who served as the security chief for Al-Shabaab in the Lower Shabelle, was a key figure in orchestrating attacks and maintaining the group’s control over the region. His death, alongside the destruction of Al-Shabaab’s headquarters in Hanti-Wadaag, is expected to hamper the group’s ability to coordinate further attacks and maintain its grip on the area.
This raid is part of a broader series of targeted strikes by Somali government forces aimed at weakening Al-Shabaab’s presence and operational effectiveness. It follows a period of intensified military actions, including an airstrike earlier this year that eliminated two other senior leaders.
