(14 April 2024) MOGADISHU (Halqabsi News) — The Somali National Army celebrated the graduation of the 10th batch of Danab Commandos on Sunday at the Hassan Tuure Military Training School Ex-Balidoogle base in Lower Shabelle region. The ceremony was attended by Somalia’s Minister of Defence, Abdulkadir Mohamed Nur, and General Ibrahim Sheikh Muhuddin, commander of the armed forces, alongside officials from the United States government who assist in training and funding the elite troops.
Minister Nur, in his address to the newly graduated commandos, emphasised their role in combating terrorism and the high expectations set for them. “Our brother Hassan Tuure, after whom this school is named, has left a profound legacy that you are to continue. You are tasked with liberating your country from the clutches of Al-Shabaab, ensuring the safety and freedom of the people you will serve,” he declared.
Nur also expressed gratitude towards the U.S. government for its contributions to developing and funding the capabilities of Danab, which are seen as a key element of Somalia’s defence strategy against insurgent threats like Al-Shabaab. He stressed the strategic partnership aimed at enhancing Somalia’s stability and security.
General Muhuddin, also addressing the ceremony, encouraged the new batch of commandos to rigorously prepare for their imminent deployments. He urged them to draw inspiration from the successes of their predecessors, who have made notable strides in securing Somali territories previously under extremist control.
