Upper House Speaker Abdi Hashi Abdullahi issued a statement on Wednesday urging a by-election to fill the vacant Upper House seat, UH#16. The directive was directed toward the President and Deputy President of Galmudug, the Galmudug Parliament, and the Deputy Speakers of the Upper House. The seat was previously held by the late Senator Abdi Osman Hareed, whose constituency is in Galmudug.
The Speaker emphasised the importance of filling the position within 60 days. Media reports suggest that the seat is intended for former journalist Abdiweli Ibrahim Garyare, who currently serves as the Deputy Director of the Somali Civil Aviation Authority.
