(30-05-24) MOGADISHU (Halqabsi News) — Mogadishu Mayor Yusuf Hussein Jimale, held an emergency meeting on Wednesday to address the city’s persistent flooding and inadequate sewage systems. The mayor outlined a comprehensive plan to upgrade the city’s infrastructure to better withstand the heavy rains of the ongoing Gu’ season, which have already caused widespread flooding in central Somalia.
In addition to infrastructure improvements, the mayor stressed the importance of addressing illegal constructions that obstruct critical roadways. He urged district commissioners to collaborate with residents to ensure their cooperation in clearing these obstructions, especially in preparation for the upcoming Independence Day celebrations in July.
These measures are considered crucial steps towards creating a safer, more functional, and healthier urban environment for Mogadishu’s residents, many of whom recently experienced severe flooding that paralyzed the city and isolated entire districts. The city’s leadership hopes that these actions will mitigate the impact of future floods and improve the overall quality of life for its residents.
