President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud delivered keynote remarks at the Oslo Forum 2024, which brought together leaders, conflict mediators, and other actors under the theme “Mediation Against All Odds.”
In his remarks, the President highlighted the Somali government’s historical struggle with the constant threat of international terrorism and the recent multi-pronged offensive, which yielded significant gains and resulted in the liberation of large territories.
The President touched on the government’s commitment to pursuing peaceful means to reduce extremist violence, including initiating political engagements and providing amnesty to members who denounce extremist ideology. He further noted that “the terrorists’ global agenda complicates these efforts.”
President Mohamud is in Oslo for a three-day work visit, during which he held meetings with the country’s top leadership, mainly on bilateral relations between Somalia and Norway.
