(24-06-24) MOGADISHU (Halqabsi News) – A two-day regional conference focusing on Somalia’s integration into the East African Community (EAC) opened today in Mogadishu. The event, inaugurated by President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, brings together key stakeholders including government ministers, parliamentarians, international diplomats, academics, and experts from across the region and beyond.
Discussions will centre on maximising the benefits of Somalia’s EAC membership, which was formalised in December of last year. Topics expected to be covered include trade, infrastructure development, regional security, and harmonisation of policies and regulations.
President Mohamud, in his opening address, highlighted the significance of regional cooperation for Somalia’s economic growth and stability. He expressed optimism that the conference will generate valuable insights and recommendations to guide Somalia’s integration process.
The conference is seen as a crucial platform for fostering dialogue and collaboration between Somalia and its EAC partners. It is expected to conclude with a set of concrete action plans to accelerate Somalia’s participation in the regional bloc.
