(29-06-24) MOGADISHU (Halqabsi News) – Five men have been sentenced to five years, three months, and ten days in prison by the Banadir Regional Court after being found guilty of piracy today.

The defendants, Abdikarim Salah Mohamed Mohamud (Awkoombe), Mohamed Ali Osman, Ahmed Ali Yasin, Abshir Mohamed Jama, and Mohamed Omar Jama, were charged by the Attorney General’s Office with various acts of piracy.

The court heard evidence presented by the prosecution, including witness testimony and forensic evidence, which it deemed sufficient to prove the defendants’ guilt.

This conviction is part of the ongoing efforts by Somali authorities to combat piracy, which has been a significant threat to maritime security in the region.
