(29-06-24) DHUSAMAREB (Halqabsi News) – – Acting UN Special Representative for Somalia, James Swan, visited Galmudug today to meet President Ahmed Abdi Kariye Qoorqoor. The visit focused on stabilisation efforts, good governance, and regional humanitarian and development support.
During a joint press conference, Swan expressed the UN’s deep concern over the recent clan violence in parts of Galmudug, offering condolences to the bereaved and commending President Qoorqoor’s swift action to establish a mediation committee.
The two leaders discussed various issues, including security, counter-terrorism efforts, constitutional matters, elections, and UN activities in Galmudug. They also addressed the ongoing tribal conflict in the region, with President Qoorqoor providing an update on efforts to resolve the crisis.
Swan pledged the UN’s continued support in finding a lasting solution to the recurring conflict.
