(06-07-24) MOGADISHU (Halqabsi News) – The Somali National Army today announced a successful operation against Al-Shabaab militants on the outskirts of Hudur, the capital of Bakool region.
The 9th Brigade, based in Hudur, reportedly advanced into areas previously held by Al-Shabaab, including Edanow and Eelahaley, situated west of the city. Military officials claim these areas were used as launchpads for attacks against Hudur.
“We have taken control of key positions and will continue our operations until Al-Shabaab is eradicated from the region,” said a senior military official.
Al-Shabaab has not yet commented on the SNA’s claims. The situation in the region remains tense, with both sides reportedly mobilising.
Hudur, like many towns in the South West, has long been under siege by Al-Shabaab, which controls large swathes of territory in the region. The operation comes as the South West State prepares for the second phase of its offensive against the militant group, intending to liberate Bay and Bakool regions.
