(31-07-24) MOGADISHU (Halqabsi News) – During an address at the second conference of Somali scholars in Mogadishu, President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud called for unity among the religious scholars themselves. He stressed the importance of scholars coming together to iron out their minor differences to strengthen national unity and address the challenges facing the nation. Highlighting the government’s commitment to heeding the guidance of scholars, the President underscored the need for a unified front in fighting extremism and fostering national solidarity.
The President also emphasised the government’s responsibility to protect Somalia’s heritage, including its religion, language, and unity. He condemned attempts by extremists to exploit religion for their own agendas and warned against divisive forces that seek to fragment the Somali people by clan or region. His call was for scholars to act as a cohesive force in preserving and promoting the country’s core values.
The President also expressed condolences on the recent passing of Sheikh Osman Sheikh Omar (Sheikh Osman Xidig), whom he said made important contributions to education and society. The second annual religious scholars conference is underway in Mogadishu and is set to issue a communique on their discussions and resolutions.
