(16 Sep 2024) MOGADISHU (Halqabsi News) – On Monday, the federal government allegedly blocked SNA’s 9th Battalion, commander stationed in Huddur, Bakol region, South West State, at Mogadishu’s Adde Abdulle International Airport.
The commander had flown in from Baidoa after attending a security meeting with local officials and President Abdiaziz Laftagareen in South West State, and was en route to Huddur when the federal authorities intervened.
Efforts led by Speaker of the House, Sheikh Aden Madobe, secured the release of the commander and his guards, but they were prevented from boarding the scheduled flight to Huddur.
In a related incident, the Federal Government also cancelled a flight carrying ministers and officials from South West State to the coastal town of Barawe in Lower Shabelle, highlighting the growing political tensions between Villa Somalia and South West State.
Neither the federal government nor South West State has issued comments on the incident. This development follows Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre’s recent visit to Baidoa, where he held discussions with President Laftagareen on resolving the dispute. However, efforts to persuade Laftagareen to travel to Mogadishu for further talks have so far been unsuccessful.
