(19 Sep 2024) MOGADISHU (Halqabsi News) – The commander of the Banadir police department, Mahdi Omar Muumin (Moalim Mahdi), has revealed recent operations to stabilise the capital and curb the illegal arms trade. In a 72-hour operation, 36 firearms, including four BKMs, along with a large quantity of ammunition, were confiscated.
Commander Muumin highlighted the threat these weapons posed to the city’s security, stating they were often sold to individuals linked to insecurity and terrorist groups. He sternly warned those involved in the illegal arms trade, assuring them they would not evade the law.
The police intend to continue their efforts, targeting not only those who trade illegal weapons but also those who import them and the properties where they are stored.
“Illegal weapons have no place in a responsible home. Anyone involved in the weapons trade is no different from Al-Shabaab,” Commander Muumin declared.
