(16 Oct 2024) MOGADISHU (Halqabsi News) – Hodan district in Mogadishu witnessed another brutal attack today, as two businessmen were killed and another seriously injured by Al-Shabaab militants in the Soona-key neighbourhood. Armed men targeted the traders in their shops, reportedly in response to a government directive to install CCTV cameras in businesses across the capital.
The injured victim was rushed to a Mogadishu health centre for urgent treatment. Security forces quickly arrived at the scene and launched an investigation into the killings, although the attackers managed to flee.
This attack comes just a week after a similar incident in Dayniile district, where three traders who had complied with the CCTV mandate were shot dead by masked men. Al-Shabaab militants have previously targeted businesses with CCTV cameras, using explosives in some cases, which resulted in six casualties.
Despite many traders adhering to the government’s orders, they continue to face deadly threats from Al-Shabaab.
