(16 Oct 2024) MOGADISHU (Halqabsi News) – The Somali National Army (SNA) convened its eighth capacity-building meeting, chaired by Brigadier General Madey Nurey Sheikh, Assistant to the SNA leadership. The gathering included key figures from various SNA departments, such as Colonel Ahmed Isse Ahmed, Training and Doctrine Command Commander, and representatives from the National Security Office and international partners, including ATMIS, the EU, Turkey, UAE, UK, UN, and US.
Participants addressed several important issues, including implementing resolutions from the December 2023 Somalia Security Meeting in New York and the SNA Development Plan. A primary focus was enhancing and bolstering the SNA’s capabilities to meet current and future needs. The meeting also discussed the ongoing process for the drawdown of ATMIS forces and preparations for the new mission to replace it, in line with resolutions from the African Union and UN Security Council.
Additionally, the participants deliberated on the establishment of a dedicated training facility for the SNA, to improve training capabilities and reduce reliance on outside training programmes. The ongoing offensive against Al-Shabaab was highlighted, and participants stressed the urgent need to support efforts aimed at liberating the nation and prioritising development projects to enhance the army’s effectiveness.
In closing, Colonel Madey expressed gratitude to all attendees for their commitment to strengthening Somalia’s security forces and effectively combating terrorism
