(19 Oct 2024) MOGADISHU (Halqabsi News) – A major military operation was conducted last night in Dhagahley village, part of the Eeldheer district in the Galgaduud region, targeting Al-Shabaab militants. Government forces and the local Mawisley militia, acting on intelligence, targeted an Al-Shabaab assembly.
The troops were ambushed as they approached the militants, resulting in a fierce battle. However, reports indicate that the joint forces successfully broke through and inflicted heavy losses on Al-Shabaab. Weapons and military equipment were recovered during the operation.
The exact toll on militants remains unclear due to the night-time operation, but military leaders confirmed significant damage was inflicted on the group. The situation in the area has since stabilised, and Al-Shabaab has not yet issued any statement regarding the attack.
Operations to clear the central regions, including Galmudug, from militant control are ongoing, as government and local forces continue their offensive to liberate key towns in the region.
In addition to ground operations, international partners have intensified their support through drone strikes, targeting Al-Shabaab militants in the region. The latest strike occurred yesterday, on Friday.
