(21 Oct 2024) MOGADISHU (Halqabsi News) – Somalia’s Prime Minister, Hamza Abdi Barre, has appointed a second Deputy Prime Minister, marking a notable reshuffle in his administration. Abdisalan Abdi Ali, who previously held the role of Minister of Public Works, has been promoted to serve as the second Deputy Prime Minister of the Federal Government of Somalia. In turn, Elmi Mohamud Nur, a former Minister of Finance under the current government, will now assume the role of Minister of Public Works, filling the vacancy left by Abdisalan.
The move makes Barre’s administration the first since the Transitional Federal Government (TFG) to introduce a second Deputy Prime Minister. In contrast, during President Hassan Sheikh’s previous term, the government only had one Deputy Prime Minister, departing from the earlier practice of having three deputies during the TFG era.
