(13 Nov 2024) MOGADISHU (Halqabsi News) — The Federal Minister of Communications and Technology has suspended Mohamed Ahmed Ali, Director General of the National Data Protection Agency. The decision, effective from 13 November 2024, comes following his failure to act on recommendations intended to enhance the agency’s performance, as well as his involvement in actions that allegedly disrupted its operations, read part of a statement from the Ministry of Communications.
According to the Ministry, Ali’s suspension aligns with Article 102 of the Provisional Constitution of Somalia. The Ministry cited concerns about the Director General’s lack of adherence to professional conduct standards for senior government officials, which reportedly affected the agency’s functionality.
In his absence, Deputy Director General Daud Abdi Husein has been appointed as Acting Director General until a new head of the agency is named. The Ministry of Communications and Technology committed itself to maintaining stability and effective operations within the agency during this transition.
