(25 Nov 2024) MOGADISHU (Halqabsi News) — Somalia’s Upper House has launched a new Women’s Conference Office to support women’s legislative and advocacy efforts. The facility, equipped by UN Women, was inaugurated by Senator Samsam Ibrahim Ali, Protocol Officer of the Upper House.
The event was attended by Sahra Abdullahi Egal, Deputy Protocol Officer of the House of the People, Fartun Abdulkadir Karama, Deputy Protocol Officer of the Upper House, and members of the Women’s Committees from both parliamentary chambers.
Officials highlighted the importance of the facility in advancing gender equality initiatives and providing a dedicated platform for women’s coordination and dialogue within the legislative framework.
The initiative aligns with the country’s continued efforts to enhance women’s representation and influence in governance, with support from international partners like the United Nations.
