(05 Dec 2024) MOGADISHU (Halqabsi News) — The Somali Military Police conducted a series of security operations last night on the outskirts of Mogadishu, targeting areas such as Tabeela Sheikh Ibrahim, Sinka Dheer, and Ceelasha Biyaha. These efforts were aimed at bolstering security around the capital following recent threats.
Witnesses reported a significant military presence in the neighbourhoods, with soldiers inspecting vehicles and questioning individuals passing through the streets. The operations were reportedly planned and executed to prevent potential attacks and ensure the safety of residents.
Security officials confirmed that several suspects were apprehended during the operations. “These measures are critical to preventing threats and enhancing the overall security framework in and around Mogadishu,” one official told Halqabsi News.
The operations follow a deadly explosion earlier this week at a restaurant in Ceelasha Biyaha, which resulted in multiple casualties. While no group has claimed responsibility, such incidents are often attributed to the Al-Shabaab militant group, known for its frequent attacks targeting civilians and government forces.
Military police continue to maintain a heightened presence in the capital and its outskirts as part of ongoing efforts to neutralise threats and restore peace in Somalia.
