(15 Dec 2024) MOGADISHU (Halqabsi News) — Renewed clashes erupted between Somaliland forces and the SSC-Khatumo militia on Saturday, marking the second day of fighting in the strategic city of Erigabo.
The conflict ignited on Friday when Somaliland troops allegedly attacked a bank in the city, which is predominantly inhabited by SSC-Khatumo supporters and guarded by their forces.
Since then, sporadic clashes have continued in various neighbourhoods of Erigabo, forcing many residents to flee their homes. Concerns are growing over a potential humanitarian crisis as the fighting intensifies.
While precise casualty figures remain unavailable, both sides have reportedly deployed additional troops, indicating a potential escalation of the conflict. Local sources suggest that the situation remains tense, and mediation efforts have been unsuccessful.
