(15 Dec 2024) MOGADISHU (Halqabsi News) — President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud opened the 15th Somali Studies International Association Congress on Sunday in Mogadishu, marking its return after 35 years. In his opening remarks, President Mohamud underscored the important role of research and intellectual analysis in overcoming challenges to Somalia’s state-building, economic growth, and development. He reiterated the government’s commitment to supporting Somali scholars and researchers in finding sustainable solutions to the nation’s long-standing issues.
“The state-building struggle since the collapse of our government has often lacked the input of Somali intellectuals capable of deeply analysing our challenges. This congress comes at a crucial time, and we must seize its insights to advance swiftly,” President Mohamud remarked.
The 15th Somali Studies Congress, first held in 1979, has drawn over 400 participants, including Somali academics, international researchers, and representatives from East African universities. The congress, which is jointly organised by the National University and the Ministry of Education, will conclude with studies and recommendations to foster the development and progress of Somali society.
