(24 Dec 2024) MOGADISHU (Halqabsi News)— The Somali Civil Aviation Authority (SCAA) has launched an investigation after a Halla Airlines aircraft was allegedly forcibly seized in Kismayo on Monday, raising serious concerns about aviation security in the region. The incident reportedly involved the confiscation of the aircraft’s communication equipment, putting passengers at risk.
Airlines operating in Somalia cancelled flights to Kismayo on December 24, citing fears for passenger safety. The cancellations disrupted travel plans for many travellers, sparking frustration among those relying on air services to and from the city.
In a statement, the SCAA condemned the act as a “criminal and negligent attack” on the country’s civil aviation system. The agency vowed to ensure accountability and emphasised its commitment to upholding the safety and integrity of Somalia’s airspace. The SCAA said it is working with airline companies to resolve the issue swiftly.
