(24-05-23) BELEDWEYNE – Security forces in Beledweyne, the capital of the Hiran region, successfully foiled a bag bomb attempt earlier on Wednesday, preventing a potential catastrophe and sparing lives.
Sirad Omar Hiish, the commander of the Galbeed Station, revealed to media outlets that the local police managed to intervene in time following a tip-off about the impending explosion. According to Hiish, the suspect involved was seen attempting to enter a restaurant in Beledweyne’s bustling Howlwadaag neighbourhood with a suspicious bag, which was later discovered to contain the bomb.
Security forces promptly stopped the man after he abandoned the bag at the premises. Subsequent detonation of the device resulted in an explosion, fortunately, devoid of human casualties due to the swift intervention of security personnel. Despite the absence of loss of life, the restaurant and nearby properties suffered damage from the blast.
“The individual responsible for this act managed to escape amid the chaos,” Hiish disclosed. The police are currently engaged in a manhunt to apprehend the suspect.
In the wake of the event, the situation in Beledweyne has reportedly returned to stability. Security forces in the city have launched an investigation into the incident to unmask any accomplices or wider threats lurking behind this attempted attack.
