(31-05-23) MOGADISHU — During a visit on Tuesday to the port of Bossaso in the Bari region, President Said Abdullahi Deni surveyed the ongoing expansion project taking place at the facility. The President toured various sectors of the port and received briefings from officials of the Ministry of Ports and representatives from DP World, the company overseeing the current construction.
The expansion plan envisions an extension of 450 metres to the port’s current structure. The first phase of this expansion, accounting for a 150-metre length and 30-metre width addition, is now 70 per cent complete. The project also comprises the refurbishment of 215 metres of the existing port, the establishment of a 4,000-metre container section, port refrigeration facilities, roads, and a three-story building to house operations offices for port authorities.
Local residents have praised the progress of the construction work, showing optimism that the enhanced facilities would provide a much-needed boost to the port’s capacity and operations.
