(16-05-23) MOGADISHU – Tensions have reached a boiling point in Tulo Samakab, north of Lasanood in the Sool region, as clashes erupted between Somaliland forces and local residents, resulting in significant casualties. Reports indicate that Somaliland forces attacked SSC forces, leading to a violent confrontation.

According to reports reaching Halqabsi News, the skirmishes resulted in the death of 18 Somaliland soldiers, including the alleged death of General Ali Hirsi Yusuf. “General Yusuf was among the casualties,” a spokesperson for the SSC Abdirizak Falalug told the media, further inflaming the already tense situation.

In a startling revelation, allegations have emerged that five high-ranking officers and 17 soldiers from the Somaliland forces surrendered to SSC Forces at Samakaab. They were reportedly transported to Lasanood, and are currently awaiting relocation to Garowe.

The escalation of hostilities has led to a drastic measure: the closure of the critical route that has been the lifeline for the transport of casualties since the onset of hostilities. The SSC forces, as per sources, have effectively created a chokehold on this road, thereby significantly affecting Somaliland’s capacity to transport their casualties and injured soldiers.

As a result, Somaliland forces have been compelled to divert the transport of their casualties and the wounded to a rough northern bypass route outside Samakab village, towards OOG village. This decision comes as a significant setback to the Somaliland forces as it entails transporting casualties through a difficult, less accessible terrain, extending all the way between Yagoori and Samakaab.

Furthermore, it was noted that the Somaliland Army had to respond to another conflict that broke out from Maraga to the Miyomi villages of Burco, where two Isaq clans clashed. This additional conflict places further stress on the strained resources of the Somaliland Army.

The current situation in the region is fraught with tension, and the international community are paying close attention. The unfolding situation could have far-reaching consequences for the stability of the region and the security of the local population.
