(31-05-23) MOGADISHU — The Director of the Somali Disaster Management Agency (SODMA), Mr Mohamud Moallin Abdulle, on Wednesday, hosted a meeting with traditional elders from the Sool, Sanaag, and Ayn regions, who are visiting Mogadishu for work-related matters. The meeting, also attended by his Deputy, Dr Ahmed Abdi Adan, focused primarily on the humanitarian situation in Las Anod, a town affected by armed confrontations between Somaliland forces and local armed groups.
During the discussion, officials highlighted the urgency of sustaining humanitarian aid delivery to families affected by the conflict in Las Anod. The restoration of stability in the town and surrounding areas was underscored as a crucial step towards ending the ongoing humanitarian crisis.
The traditional elders expressed gratitude for SODMA’s warm reception and its dedication to assisting the people of the Sool region. They provided their perspectives on the regional situation, explaining the challenges faced by the locals due to the precarious security conditions.
The elders, who have been in Mogadishu for the past few days, were invited by top government leadership with the intention of de-escalating the situation in their region and fostering dialogue and understanding to resolve the hostilities.
