The Deputy Commissioner of Security and Political Affairs for the Banadir Region, Mohammed Ahmed Diriye Yabooh, addressed the recruitment efforts of the terrorist group Al-Shabaab in Mogadishu on Friday. He issued a warning to the authorities in the Banadir region regarding these activities.
Diriye further stated that any officials discovered to be collaborating with Al-Shabaab would face prosecution and severe sentencing. He emphasized the equal treatment of both authorities and civilians under the law.
Mohammed Ahmed Diriye Yabooh, the Deputy Commissioner of Security and Political Affairs for Banadir, remarked, “Irrespective of one’s title, if they collaborate with Khawaarij or have any association with them, they will be apprehended and face legal consequences.”
He highlighted that Al-Shabaab alone is incapable of carrying out acts of terror in Mogadishu and across the country.
“I do not believe that the violent extremist activities conducted by Al-Shabaab in the capital city and nationwide are solely orchestrated by Al-Shabaab alone; they receive support from certain members within our government, law enforcement, and other segments of our communities. Any civil servant connected to Khawaarij is a more significant offender than ordinary civilians; no one should be associated with Al-Shabaab,” stated Mohammed.
